Don’t you wish there was more than 24 hours to a day? Do you at times wish you dint have to sleep? Or eat. Wouldn’t life be so much easier. One could do all they wanted to do and go anywhere they wanted to go without much worry.
Sadly though, there is not enough time in this world to do all that we want to do. Time is a master and we, the helpless servant. We must work. Work takes away from us the chance to do all the things we want to do. It is the way of life that we must first make a living. After work you are so tired, you go home, have dinner and sleep.
They say if you want to be happy at work you should do that which you love doing. That is true but how many of us really get a chance to do work that we love? Most of us are born of less than privileged background and survival is the first thing!
You go to school because you have to; you take up certain subjects because you need to make sure you end up pursuing the right course that will get you a job. The risk is just too high to pursue passions when you are worried whether you will have enough to feed your family. Passion is a luxury that children of poor men cannot afford.
Once you start working, responsibilities fall on you like a a sack of potatoes. Your dreams narrow into pursuit of the next promotion and pay rise. You need money for now and for investing for the future.
Then after working for some years, your dreams keep nagging you! You want to pursue them but you can’t. Where is the time? You have to work, eat and sleep. You need to pay off your loans.
Breaking out of this cycle is not easy and it takes too much sacrifice to find the time and energy to pursue interests parallel to your job and responsibilities. If you choose to go for that part time dance class, you sacrifice family time. If you choose to start a side business, you sacrifice rest and health, and peace of mind.
What to do?
To make matters worse, time refuses to wait for you! It moves so fast, the years fly by and you wake up one day and you can’t believe how old you are. You feel like you are running out of time, like your life is running out fast. You begin to wish there were 48 hours in a day. Maybe with 48 hours you might have the chance to try something you have always wanted to do?
The truth is: every day we move closer to the end of our lives. Time is not our friend.
Again, what to do?
Baby steps. Small steps. A little extra every day. Start somewhere. Every small step towards the big goal counts. Two hours a week at the gym is better than none in your quest to achieve that great body shape. An hour a week of interior design class is a step closer to that interior design business. Committing your Sunday afternoon on that keyboard is a big step to fulfilling the dream to play the piano.
Just start doing something about your heart’s desire already, you will begin to feel better. If nothing else, isn’t that happiness, big or small?
